Congresswoman Doris Matsui will (finally) be holding an in-person Town Hall on health care reform this Saturday.
Time: Saturday Oct. 10, 11am-12:30pm

July 4th 1776, the day our sovereignty from Great Britain was declared by the thirteen colonies. This Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson, outlined a basic philosophy of liberty and listed the transgressions of those rights by King George III. " ...unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government..." Unfortunately, some of the same transgressions are approached by our large government today. Let's revisit some of the greivances from the Declaration of Independence in light of current and recent events: Here's hoping everyone has a safe and fun July 4th Independence Day celebration, and that they remember the reasons we celebrate it so that we may continue to fight for liberty in our repubilc. |

The Pacific Research Institute is an important organization dedicated to education, study, and outreach for freedom in public policy. A few interesting studies they've done comparing states are listed below. California comes out near the worst in all three. California has nearly the highest tax burden in the country. Now that we are bankrupt, some politicians are advocating raising taxes even further. The only sensible solution is to pursue greater freedom in California: freedom from the hundreds of programs and regulations that cause high taxes, overgrown government, and cumbersome business environment. Both republican and democrat legislators have contributed to the problem. It's time to demand liberty in California more than ever. |

Americans are learning a hard lesson about debt in this economy. Buying now and paying later, is painful... once later comes. What many americans don't realize is that our government has been running up it's debt over the past century. The chart shows a very important ratio: the national debt vs. the size of our economy. You'll notice peak periods (bars), are recovery periods from wars. Up until 1913, we always returned to a balanced budget after those war recoveries. Why the big growth in government spending over the past 100 years?- The first marker, 1913, is the year when both the income tax and Federal Reserve were created. This allowed expansionary monetary policy and new government revenues.
- The second marker, 1971, ended the gold standard allowing further monetary expansion.
The trend represents how much federal spending has grown beyond it's means in the past several decades. Ultimately, that debt must be paid by the taxpayer. It's time for us to return to fiscal responsibility and sound money. It's time to cancel the federal credit card. |

In 2006, the Federal Reserve (by it's own authority) decided to stop publishing numbers on the M3 money supply,
preventing taxpayers from fully accounting how much currency the Fed
creates. There is good reason our founding fathers originally wrote
in the Constitution "No State shall ... coin Money; emit Bills of
Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of
Debts". These are also the reasons great presidents like Thomas
Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were vehemently opposed to a central bank. House Resolution 1207, "Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009", is in it's early committee stages before going to the houses for debate and vote. The purpose of this bill is " to amend United States Code, to reform the manner in which the Board of
Governors of the Federal Reserve System is audited by the Comptroller
General of the United States and the manner in which such audits are
reported, and for other purposes". It's essential that we contact our representatives to ensure this bill is crafted with teeth, and passed into law. "The Federal Reserve, a central bank, runs monetary policy, sets
interest rates, pumps liquidity into insolvent banks, buys and sells
government securities, issues paper currency and controls the money
supply. Since its founding in 1914, this very important banking
monopoly has enjoyed unparalleled secrecy." ( Anthony Gregory, Campaign for Liberty)
Liberty means returning to a sound principle of money that has stable and innate value. No government or organization should have the right to print money out of thin air. Let's take the first step towards ending the Fed, by auditing them!

It's important that we keep a watch on our local representatives here in Sacramento. They are our only voice in Washington. Most of us probably don't know how Sacramento-area representatives voted on the Federal Bailout - nearly a trillion dollars printed out of thin air, to go to poorly run banks and automakers. Most of us would be surprised that all of our local representatives voted for H.R. 1424 (Emergency Stabilization Act of 2008), signed late last year. Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Fienstein both voted yes. Congress representatives Thompson (Dist. 1), Herger (Dist. 2), Lungren (Dist. 3), and Matsui (Dist. 5) all voted yes. McClintock (Dist. 4) wasn't in office yet. To some amends... Herger, Lungren, and McClintock voted no on H.R. 1 (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009), which passed in February of this year for additional hundreds of billions debt. SacLiberty.org will continue to report on the actions of our local representatives. There is a California Statewide election coming up. Don't believe the TV ads. They are misleading.
Here is our recommendation how you should vote for smaller government and reduced taxes:

Let's keep government from making so many new programs and laws, so they can focus on the ones in the Constitution. Let's make them trim their budget and replace poorly run government programs with proper private alternatives, so we can have more choices for ourselves.
